Administrator Update

Dolores (Dee) Macy is retiring this January from her position as Administrator of CAMComp, a group self-insured workers’ compensation plan for contractors in Michigan. Dee was responsible for the development and administration of the plan since its inception in 1982.

The plan has grown from humble beginnings to become a standard by which other self-insured programs are measured. CAMComp serves hundreds of members, generates millions in premiums and has distributed over $55 million in dividends to participants.

CAMComp‘s “Safety Pays!” tagline is no accident: Dee has tirelessly promoted safety training and workplace safety so that companies have fewer claims and enjoy a lower effective worker’s comp rate. The CAMComp web site, safetypays.net, has a special section devoted to workplace safety with monthly “Toolbox Talk” safety tips.

Dee started her career as a claims adjuster at Aetna in 1971, and served as an administrative manager for Penn General before administering the development of CAMComp. She will continue as consultant to CAMComp after her retirement effective January 1, 2016. Jan Prince, CAMComp Controller, will serve as Administrator.

Dee Macy is a licensed property and casualty insurance agent in Michigan and maintains affiliations with the following:

  • Secretary Treasurer, Michigan Council of Self Insured Group Administrators, 1988 – Present
  • Self Insurance Institute of America Member
  • Michigan Self Insured Association Member
  • Construction Association of Michigan Member
  • Society of Engineers, Architects, Scientists and Allied Professionals Member
  • Builders and Remodelers of Greater Ann Arbor Member
  • Michigan Business and Professional Association Member

 Administrator Named

Effective January 1, 2016 Janice (Jan) Prince will serve as Administrator of CAMComp, a group self-insured workers’ compensation plan for contractors in Michigan. She is well placed to serve as Administrator, with a background in accounting and over 30 years of experience in the group self-insurance industry.

Janice Prince began her career with CAMComp in 1984 as its Workers’ Compensation Coordinator. In 1990, Janice became Controller, developing policies and procedures to help improve organizational efficiencies that accurately identified and tracked costs, controlled risk, and maximized profit. She also directed all activities of the accounting department and provided technical leadership for the CAMComp staff.

Jan said, “I look forward to continuing the strong tradition of flexibility, service and quality that CAMComp is known for. We will continue our drive to reduce injuries and insurance costs by improving workplace safety and delivering more safety training materials. We want our members to be safe – with CAMComp, when claims paid are less than the premiums received, we return excess premiums and investment income to our members. Encouraging safety keeps people healthy and costs less.”

In her new role as Administrator, she will oversee all departments and coordinate new member acquisition and approval. Jan’s predecessor, Dee Macy, will continue as a consultant to the agency.

Jan Prince maintains affiliations with the following:

  • Secretary Treasurer-Elect (2016 term), Michigan Council of Self Insured Group Administrators
  • Michigan Self Insurance Association Member
  • Construction Association of Michigan Member
  • Builders and Remodelers of Greater Ann Arbor Member
  • Michigan Business and Professional Association Member
